From the Encyclopedia of Arkansas: “The Arkansas State Tuberculosis Sanatorium was established in 1909 about three miles south of Booneville (Logan County). Once fully established, the sanatorium was the relocation center for all white Arkansans with tuberculosis. By the time the facility was closed in 1973, it treated over 70,000 patients, and in time, its main hospital, the Nyberg Building, became known worldwide for its tuberculosis treatment.”

U.S. Marshal, Western District of Arkansas

In March 1876, James F. Fagan, the U.S. Marshal for the Western District of Arkansas, seized a large amount of property - handkerchiefs, buttons, castor oil, oysters, peaches, candy, coffee, horses, etc.  A notice was published in the Fort Smith Weekly New Era newspaper listing the confiscated property and related legal information.

J. T. Coston correspondence in the Arkansas Small Manuscripts Materials

These letters were written to the Honorable J. T. Coston, a well-known judge in Mississippi County, in the summer of 1920. The first letter refers to a Bar Association meeting in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and the second deals with voters and campaigning in Lee County, Arkansas.

Wanted!

The Little Rock Police Department offered a $100 reward for the arrest and detention of W. Price Davis, alias W. L. Davies, an Arkansas State Penitentiary escapee, circa 1917.

According to the poster, "Davis is a check worker whose favorite method is to secure employment with, or learn the name of some prominent automobile dealer, using his name as reference in getting his checks cashed. He had served two months of a sixteen-year sentence for four cases of forgery and uttering in Little Rock, Ark."

This is the room rate schedule for the maternity annex at St. Vincent Infirmary in 1939. Depending on her ability to pay, a woman could choose between a number of air-conditioned rooms.
