Special Program:
The Butler Center for Arkansas Studies will host a film preview and panel discussion on the tragic Elaine race massacre of 1919, at noon on Thursday, June 15, in the Ron Robinson Theater on the CALS Main Library campus in the River Market District of downtown Little Rock. Clips from an upcoming film by Michael Wilson and Natalie Zimmerman will be shown, followed by a discussion led by the Butler Center’s Guy Lancaster and featuring Brian Mitchell, Story Matkin-Rawn, and Grif Stockley. The story of the Elaine tragedy highlights racial and economic pressures in the Arkansas Delta in the post-World War I era, with a legacy still being felt. This program is co-sponsored by the Clinton School of Public Service. Don’t miss “Massacre and Memory: Elaine 1919 in History and Film,” at noon on Thursday, June 15, in the Ron Robinson Theater.
