Gilbert M. Depner Korean War Collection

Born: December 13, 1920, in Farmington, Montana
Korean War Service: 2nd Battalion, 7th Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1950-1951

Gilbert Marvin Depner was born in Farmington, Montana in 1930. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in November 1949 at the age of eighteen. He served in the Korean War for fourteen months as a private with the 2nd Battalion of the 7th Regiment, 1st Marine Division beginning in August of 1950. Depner served as a gunner with an anti-tank platoon utilizing bazooka and light machine guns. He participated in the Inchon Landing and the subsequent recapturing of Seoul as well as in action at the Chosin Reservoir and on the East Central Front. Depner returned to the United States in October of 1951. He currently lives in Conway, Arkansas.

The Gilbert M. Depner Collection contains an oral history interview with Gilbert M. Depner from May 14, 2009 as well as memoir of his military service.
