Raymond L. Bly Korean War Collection

Korean War Service: USS Antietam and USS Essex, U.S. Navy, 1951-1952

Raymond Lloyd Bly was born in Pocahontas, Arkansas in 1928. He enlisted in the Navy in 1950 at the age of twenty-two. Bly served in the Korean War for sixteen months beginning in September of 1951. During this time, he worked as an Aviation Storekeeper First Class aboard USS Antietam and USS Essex. His Division was responsible for stocking and issuing all aircraft parts and other flight equipment. After the Korean War, Bly served the remainder of a three year, eleven month term in the Navy, including a total forty-three months aboard aircraft carriers. Bly currently lives in Jefferson City, Missouri.

The Bly Collection is a small collection containing a veteran’s questionnaire completed by Raymond Bly, historical information regarding the USS Antietam, and two photographs.

Raymond Bly has not yet been interviewed for this project, but we hope an oral history interview will be conducted in the future.
