Statement on Iraqi Records
The treatment of historical records during time of emergency—including war and natural disasters—is a very real issue confronted by Archivists on a daily basis.
In late April, the Society of American Archivists (SAA) and the Association of Canadian Archivists (ACA) issued a joint statement on the condition of records in Iraq. Concerns were expressed about the treatment of records during the first and second Gulf Wars, including those records obtained by the U.S. and those removed by private parties.
